Learning with Cartoons?
Posted January 16th, 2008 by The Maze
We are always looking for new ways to learn. We recently tried creating cartoons for possible use as a review tool in the classroom. You can see our handiwork above! This was created on a site called ToonDoo. It took us about thirty minutes to create this simple cartoon, so there is a definite learning curve involved. We wondered if you had any experience with cartooning on this or other sites. Do you think it can be used as a teaching or learning tool? Share your thoughts!

Yes!
I use http://www.makebeliefscomix.com/ with my adult Beginning High and Intermediate Low ESL students as a way to practice grammatical structures and vocabulary we're covering in class.
You can also make single panel cartoons using Word or PowerPoint and the "Speech Balloon" feature. You can see samples of student work at http://esl.adultinstruction.org/ClipArtComics.htm

Very cute!
Nice work.
i think its a good idea.
i think its a good idea. sometimes instead of reading information in a paragraph, it is better to look at something. it make it a little easier to pay attention to and understand the information.
Learning tools
Yes! This is a great idea. All students learn differently, so exposing them to a variety of tools is invaluable for their ongoing learning. I also loved your intro talk about the use of podcasts for learning ... for auditory learners it is a great way to revise/learn. I also agree, yes there is an overwhelming amount of information/resources/ideas and knowing where to start or to have the time to access and find stuff is overwhelming. Your site is great, the way it is set up and ideal place to intro teachers and students to a learning online community. Thanks greatly.
